Help & Support — Memtivy
Getting Started
- Open Memtivy. Look for its icon in the menu bar at the top of your screen.
- Click the icon to see current memory usage, the load status, a recent-usage chart, and the apps using the most memory.
- Open Settings from the panel to choose how the menu bar number looks.
- Allow notifications when asked if you want early warnings about critical memory load. You can change this later in System Settings → Notifications → Memtivy.
Everyday Use
- Glance at the menu bar for a quick sense of memory load.
- Open the panel when your Mac feels slow to see the status color and the top memory-using apps.
- Open the details window (if available in your version) for a larger chart plus the same summary.
Troubleshooting
I cannot find Memtivy
- It has no dock icon by design — check the menu bar at the top-right of your screen.
- If the menu bar is crowded, macOS may hide icons. Try closing other menu bar apps or using a smaller display scaling.
- Relaunch the app and check the menu bar again.
The panel shows "Loading..."
- Wait a few seconds; the first reading appears shortly after launch.
- If it persists, quit and reopen the app.
The top-apps list is empty
- Wait about 10 seconds — the app list refreshes less often than the main number to save energy.
- If it stays empty after reopening the app, restart your Mac and try again.
Notifications do not appear
- Check System Settings → Notifications → Memtivy → Allow Notifications.
- Alerts only trigger at critical load and are rate-limited, so normal or warning load will not produce one.
My Mac still shows a system low-memory message
Memtivy warns early, but it cannot prevent every case — a sudden spike from a heavy app can still fill memory. Save your work, close heavy apps or tabs, and restart the app that spiked if needed.
High readings right after opening many apps
This is expected. Open apps and browser tabs consume memory immediately. Close what you do not need and watch the chart trend back down over the next minute or two.
Starting at Login
System Settings → General → Login Items → add Memtivy.
Privacy & Data
Memtivy works fully offline. All readings stay on your Mac and are never uploaded. See privacy-policy.md for details.
