What is Memtivy?

Memtivy is a lightweight memory monitor for macOS. It sits quietly in your menu bar and shows how much memory your Mac is using, so you get an early warning before macOS shows its own "your system has run out of application memory" message.

Where do I see Memtivy?

In the menu bar at the top of your screen. Memtivy intentionally has no dock icon, so it stays out of your way. Click its menu bar icon to open the details panel.

What do the colors / statuses mean?

• Normal (green): Your Mac has comfortable headroom.
• Warning (orange): Load is getting high. Consider closing tabs or apps you do not need.
• Critical (red): Load is very high. You may receive a notification suggesting you close heavy apps. Save your work.

These are guidance levels, not hardware diagnoses.

Why does Memtivy show different numbers than Activity Monitor?

Small differences are normal. Different tools sample at slightly different moments and group memory categories differently. Use Memtivy as a trend indicator: what matters most is whether usage is climbing and which apps sit at the top of the list.

What should I do when I get a critical warning?

1. Save your work.
2. Close browser tabs, large documents, or apps you are not using.
3. Check the top-apps list in Memtivy to find the biggest memory users.
4. If warnings are frequent, consider restarting your Mac or upgrading memory-heavy workflows (fewer open projects at once).

Memtivy never closes apps for you — that decision is always yours.

Does Memtivy slow down my Mac or drain the battery?

Memtivy is built to be light: it checks memory roughly every 2 seconds, pauses when its panel is closed, and looks at the app list less often (about every 10 seconds). It supports macOS energy-saving features and does not show animations when hidden.

Which macOS versions are supported?

macOS 13 and later.

Do I need to create an account or have internet access?

No. There are no accounts, no ads, and no internet connection required. Everything works offline on your Mac.

How do I start Memtivy automatically at login?

Go to System Settings → General → Login Items, and add Memtivy to the list.

How do I change what the menu bar shows?

Open Memtivy's Settings and choose your preferred menu bar display style. A preview is shown so you can see what each option looks like.

I am not receiving notifications. What should I check?

• Make sure notifications are allowed: System Settings → Notifications → Memtivy → Allow Notifications.
• Notifications only appear when memory load reaches the critical level, and at most about once per minute, so you will not see them constantly.
